AUSTIN, TEXAS — Austin Community College volunteers are doing their part not to "Keep Austin Weird," but maintaining its beauty on Saturday.

ACC kicked off Earth Week early with a series of events in partnership with the annual Keep Austin Beautiful day Saturday, April 13. Students, faculty, staff, and community volunteers were scheduled to gather and clean trash in heavily traveled areas and tend to campus gardens:

ACC Highland Business Center (5930 Middle Fiskville Rd.) | 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. — Collect litter Roy Guerrero Park (400 Grove Blvd) | 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. — Collect litter Cypress Creek Campus (1555 Cypress Creek Road, Cedar Park, TX ) | 1 p.m. to 4 p.m — Mulch campus butterfly garden, weed around facilities, paint campus signs, make seed balls, clean benches & tables, and collect litter

"Each one of us is responsible for keeping our environments clean. Be that our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, or parks," said Brenda Kolas, ACC Degree Audit Specialist and clean-up organizer. "Volunteers from Austin Community College, as well as the city-wide Austin community, will put that responsibility into action. It is important to me that Riverbats are represented in this effort."

Registration is recommended, but not required. ACC also will host dozens of additional volunteer opportunities during Earth Week April 22 through April 26. For more information, visit austincc.edu/earthweek.

It’s unclear if the volunteer teams were able to make it out to the targeted sites on Saturday as thunderstorms swept through the area.
